How we use personal information for the Refugee Venture Fund, in plain English.

This notice explains how we use personal information for the Refugee Venture Fund (RVF). It adds to TERN's main privacy notice در تب جدید باز میشود, which covers everything else, such as general website use, our newsletter and cookies.
Who we are
RVF backs refugee-led start-ups in the UK. It is run by TERN (The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network C.I.C.). TERN is the data controller for RVF: it decides how your information is used and keeps it safe.

When the fund has its own company
We are setting up a UK company for the fund's investments. Once it exists, it will become the controller of RVF data. We will pass it the relevant information and update this notice. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests.
What we collect and why
If you apply
- What: your contact details, information about your business, your background, your application and notes from any interview.
- Why: to assess your application through our selection process.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests (finding businesses to invest in), and steps you ask us to take before an investment contract.
People read every application and make every decision. We do not use AI to assess applications.
If you join our adviser network
- What: your name, email address, phone number (optional), expertise, sectors and availability.
- Why: to match you to our selection process and the businesses we support.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
If someone tells us about you
We record your name, contact details and who told us, only to invite you to apply. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
If you contact us or ask for updates
- What: your contact details and your message.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests, or your consent for marketing. Updates come from TERN's mailing list.
Sensitive information
When you apply, we ask about your displacement background (for example, refugee status) and your right to live and work in the UK. The law gives this extra protection.
- We only use it with your explicit consent, which you give by ticking a box on the form.
- We keep it separate, and only a few people can see it.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Who we share it with
- Our investment committee and advisers, who see only the individual cases we choose to share with them. They do not have access to our system.
- Professional advisers, such as lawyers.
- Service providers who help us run the fund, such as secure hosting.
Where any of these are outside the UK, we protect your information with safeguards approved under UK law. We never sell your information.
How long we keep it
- Unsuccessful applications: 24 months after our decision.
- Businesses we invest in: while we hold the investment, and as long as the law requires after that.
- Advisers: as long as you stay in our network.
- People someone told us about: 90 days, unless you apply.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- see the information we hold about you
- correct it
- ask us to delete it
- ask us to limit how we use it
- object to how we use it
- get a copy to take elsewhere
- withdraw your consent at any time

Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when the fund's company is set up, or when what we do changes.
